Year 6 transition to high school information

Message from New Mills High School with regards to the year 7 transition days

Year 6 children joining New Mills High School in September 2019:

2nd AND 3rd JULY 2019

To help your child settle in September, we would like to invite him/her to visit us for two transition days on Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd July.

Pupils should make their own way to New Mills School by 8.40 am.  This is to give your child the ‘full’ experience of coming to secondary school as they will have to do in September.

We recommend walking, car share or using the school bus.  Pupils should meet in the School Hall at 8.45am in full primary school uniform on Tuesday 2nd July.  On Wednesday 3rd July pupils will meet in their form room.

On these days everyone will be able to experience having lunch in our school canteen.  Students can either bring a packed lunch, or purchase a ‘meal deal’ consisting of a hot meal or sandwich of their choice, pudding and a drink at a cost of £2.35.  It would be appreciated if students could bring the exact money.

Any student entitled to free school meals will have a packed lunch/hot meal provided for them.  Pupils should bring a water bottle, which can be re-filled, on all transition days.

During the transition days, your child will work in groups on a variety of activities. This will allow them to get to know one another a little better and to get to know their Year Manager and some of the teaching staff.

School will finish at 3.10 pm. and pupils will be expected to make their own way home.  The school bus bay will be an assembly point for any pupils needing to meet friends or family.

Parents are invited to the school hall for a meeting to begin at 7.00pm. with a short presentation from an Assistant Headteacher, Mrs Caroline Jesson and Student Development Leader for Transition, Miss Sam Clarkson.  They will outline the arrangements for Year 7 next September and explain the support the school offers to the new students and to their parents.

Forms in the transition pack can be handed in on the evening, and school ties (£3.50) and pencil cases (£1.50) will be available to purchase on the night.  School uniform will be displayed and can be purchased from Headmasters at the New Mills Indoor Market.

There will be light refreshments available in the Dining Room.
